WHY JACK N’ JILL

ABOUT US

Established in the 1940's, the Jack N' Jill Kids brand was a household name and is fondly remembered by many Aussie kids raised in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Today, the family business of over 20 years has been revived by Melbourne-based couple Rachel and Justin Bernhaut, who, after their own personal light bulb moment, realised the product is still very relevant for today's health-conscious parents.

Hurtled into toxin awareness whilst scrutinising products for their own newborn baby, Rachel and Justin embarked on a quest to challenge the personal care industry and to develop safer options. The vision was simple: make safer products that perform without compromise.

Jack N' Jill is now sold in more than 50 countries with the range incorporating toothpaste of various flavours; newborn teething gel and tooth wipes, plus toothbrushes - both manual and electric. Silicone finger brushes, rinse cups as well as a Bathtime range and a Natural Sunscreen.

Jack N' Jill Toothpaste is 100% safe for young children - especially because they have a tendency to swallow it, rather than spit it out. All Jack N' Jill, branding is designed to be appealing to children and is cute enough that parents won't mind it sitting on their bathroom vanity. Alongside the toothpaste, we have designed and manufactured the first children's toothbrushes with handles that are made of NON GMO cornstarch, and are therefore biodegradable and recyclable.

At Jack N' Jill, we believe that businesses have an obligation to the environment. That's why we have formulated an all natural, hypoallergenic toothpaste with organic ingredients, and designed our packaging to be minimal, recyclable and BPA Free.

SCIENCE & NATURE

With reverence for the science behind successful formulations, we begin projects by identifying and eliminating ingredients that don’t meet our specific safety criteria.

Oftentimes, the challenge lies with preservative systems. Ironically, a preservative system is designed primarily to protect the end user, however the most effective examples of preservatives are often considered the ‘harshest’. If they are effective against microorganisms, chances are they will also have detrimental effects on human cells because they are similar in many ways. Exploring alternatives and finding the balance is key.

Another crucial area for consideration is the origin of particular components. For example, the petrochemical industry gives rise to many industrial chemicals and commercially available personal care ingredients. Of course, we avoid these.

Our Gold Standard for a suitable ingredient profile is:

  • natural or naturally derived
  • considerable and favourable safety data available.

With an in-house pharmacist, as well as an experienced development team, we work with the best partners far and wide to produce our ranges. We are very excited that Jack N' Jill toothpaste has been evaluated by researchers from Skin Deep - the Environmental Working Group's database ‐ for the safety of personal care products. Our toothpaste rates with a '1' danger score ‐ the safest rating they have.
