Koala Eco was founded by husband and wife duo Jessica Bragdon and Paul Davidson in 2017. Born out of a desire to find eco-friendly, non-toxic products that were both effective and safe for even the littlest members of every household, the Koala Eco range of household and personal care products harnesses the power of potent botanicals and plantbased ingredients to inspire a safe, caring, and beautiful world. 

A health scare during their younger son’s infancy spurred the couple to reassess the products they were using at home. Unable to find brands that were truly natural and safe, yet powerful, and convinced there were many people like them looking to make more natural product choices, Paul and Jessica decided to create their own. They designed a range of cleaning and care products to deliver the performance of conventional brands using plant-based ingredients, while offering an unmatched sensorial experience. Koala Eco was born.

Jessica and Paul are on a mission to bring truly natural products into the mainstream. They believe that many people would like to make more sustainable, natural choices but are hesitant due to ongoing beliefs that ‘eco’ options compromise on efficacy and quality. The aim is for Koala Eco to fill the gap.

Koala Eco has worked with a specialist chemist to produce powerful yet completely nontoxic formulas you can trust and depend on to clean and sanitise hard surfaces, furniture, and appliances throughout your home. With their formulations containing up to 15 times the active ingredients of dissolvable tablets and sachets, Koala Eco’s products are independently lab tested and have been proven to kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria.

Koala Eco’s formulations are made with high quality natural ingredients and no harmful chemicals. Unlike many other brands, they never use synthetic fragrance in any of their products. They use safe, biodegradable, natural, non-toxic, plant-based, hypoallergenic, child and pet safe ingredients. They don’t use sulphates (SLS, SLES, SCS), triclosan, sodium coco sulphate, parabens, phosphates, formaldehyde, MEA, DEA, TEA, synthetic fragrance, chlorine, bleach, petrochemicals, animal by-products, allergens, perfumes, dyes, caustics or any nasties.

Made with sustainably sourced plant-based ingredients and Australian essential oils, Koala Eco formulas work without harming the environment, are biodegradable and grey-water safe. Their biodegradable designs have prevented over 1 million litres of toxic liquid from entering our homes and waterways.

This includes aspects you would expect from a sustainable brand, such as 100% recycled and recyclable packaging and sustainable ingredient sourcing. Beyond this, Jessica and Paul believe that today’s brands and businesses have a responsibility to go further than merely ‘do no harm’. Through Koala Eco, they actively seek to ‘do good’, balancing profit with purpose.

No New Plastic

Koala Eco bottles are made from local recycled curb-side plastic and are recyclable and refillable. Refills and glass bottles are also available to cut down on the number of bottles in circulation and reduce waste. By using recycled plastic, Koala Eco has prevented 1.5 million new plastic bottles from entering circulation.

Research around the link between nature and our mental health and wellbeing has led to the rise of "ecopsychology". It acknowledges the inherent emotional connection between humans and nature and seeks to foster and expand this relationship. The concept also proposes that many instances of psychological distress are caused by our alienation from and complicity in the destruction of nature.

At Koala Eco, they believe that connection to nature is a wonderful and precious thing, informing how we think and live, and also how we care for each other and the planet. This belief is so fundamental to the Koala Eco ethos that they even apply it to their team’s work schedule, encouraging everyone to spend an hour in nature each week: intentionally setting aside time to do something connected to the natural world that feels particularly healing.

Each time you buy a Koala Eco product, they donate to the charity 1% for the Planet to assist in the ongoing protection of land, forests, rivers, oceans, and also to encourage sustainable methods of energy production. They also support WWF Australia’s Partners in Purpose program which aims to rehabilitate and restore wildlife and habitats, and futureproof Australia against climate disasters. Since the launch of the brand, Koala Eco has supported “1% for the Planet”, the WWF and local organisations that strive to protect Koalas and their natural habitat.
